Ethos and Values
Inspired to be the best that we can be!
Leyburn Primary School values being at the heart of the local community. We work and learn together to develop all aspects of the child, giving them the skills to be confident young people, so that they are able to play an active role as adults in modern society. The Department for Education (DfE) recognises that: “in order to help their children succeed, schools have a role to play in supporting them to be resilient and mentally healthy”. We try to make sure that our school is a place for children and their families to experience a nurturing and supportive environment which helps to develop their self-esteem and gives positive experiences for overcoming adversity and building resilience.Children are trusted and given the freedom to learn within the boundaries of what is expected from them. We aim to provide the best academic, social, moral, spiritual and cultural education possible and we expect all involved with the school to contribute to this.
In May 2017, Leyburn chose to convert to an academy, joining the multi academy trust YCAT (Yorkshire Collaborative Academy Trust) which includes Askwith Primary School, Bilton Grange Primary School, Hawes Primary School and Lothersdale Primary School. As a MAT, the five schools believe in the principles of collaborative practice in the school-led system as the most effective way to raise achievement and foster life-long learning for children and adults.
