Welcome to Leyburn Primary School Foundation Stage
We welcome you and your child to our school and hope that your child will be very happy here. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with parents and families, having an open-door policy to talk about any issues that arise.
At Leyburn Primary School we operate as a Foundation Stage unit combining Nursery and Reception.
Nursery
Children can attend our Nursery from the term after their 3rd birthday. We offer flexible sessions accepting both the 15 hours and 30
hours funding.
Nursery sessions: 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm,
3pm-3.30pm (this is an additional, charged session).

Reception
Children are admitted to Reception in the academic year (September-August) that they turn 5.
Admissions are done through our local authority – North Yorkshire County Council.
Curriculum
We follow the new EYFS curriculum which became statutory from September 2021. The curriculum focuses on high quality, engaged teaching, with less focus on observation and puts a lot of emphasis on language development and interaction.
Staffing
Our Foundation Stage is staffed by experienced teachers (job share) and equally experienced teaching assistants.
Environment
We have dedicated, stimulating, well resourced indoor and outdoor classrooms and also make much use of our lovely school grounds, including the adventure playground and wooded area.
Food
Nursery children can bring a packed lunch or pay for a school lunch. All Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are entitled to free school meals. All children will also be given a piece of fruit and a drink of milk every morning at snack time.

We also welcome visits. During the term before your child is due to start Nursery or Reception we will contact you with more detailed information
