Reception

We welcome you and your child to our school and hope that your child will be very happy here.  We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with parents and families, having an open door policy to talk about any issues that arise.  Most of our children transfer from our Nursery into our Reception class but if you’re new to our school we hope the following information is useful.

Curriculum

Last academic year we were an early-adopter school for the new EYFS curriculum which is now statutory from September 2021. The curriculum focuses on high-quality, engaged teaching, with less focus on observation and puts a lot of emphasis on language development and interaction.

Staffing

Our Reception class is staffed by a full-time teacher and an experienced teaching assistant.

Environment

We have a dedicated, stimulating, well-resourced indoor and outdoor classroom and also make much use of our lovely school grounds including adventure playground and wooded area.

Timings

After a short induction period children attend school full-time.
School times: 8.50am – 3.35pm

Food

All Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are entitled to free school meals. The children eat together as a class in the school hall. They will also be given a piece of fruit and a drink of milk every morning at snack time.

What next?

Admissions to our Reception class are done through our local authority (North Yorkshire County Council) and can be done in the Autumn term prior to the school year your child is due to start. We welcome visits to our Reception class. Please contact the school office on 01969 623187 or leyburn@ycatschools.co.uk for more information.

Once school places have been allocated by the local authority we will contact you with more detailed information and the opportunity for you to visit our setting with your child. We look forward to meeting you and your child and starting their school journey with them!
